Cauchy, Augustin, Baron

Born in Paris, Baron Augustin Cauchy worked in mathematics (differential equations) and physics and developed the theory of functions with a variable complex that would play a great role in the evolution of the study of mathematics. He also did studies on the mechanics of elasticity, on the propagation of light, and on astronomical mathematics. Cauchy was named to the Academy of Sciences in 1816.
